Summary: In an attempt to keep intact with her twin brother, and possibly mend her broken family, Rena Kusinaki enters herself and her brother Shugo into a competition in The World to win chibi versions of two of The World's greatest heroes, Kite and Blackrose. What neither of them expected though was the effect their existence would have on The World. Much like the actual Kite before him, Shugo is granted the ability to alter and fix The World through use of the Twilight Bracelet. As The World's end draws ever closer, thanks to the efforts of a growing community of hackers and their bugs, it is up to Shugo to decide if he should give up on his sister's dream and let The World die or if he should take up the mantle of his predecessor and become the hero that The World needs.

Review: After .Hack//Sign, the .Hack universe is convoluted, widespread, and difficult to acquire. By this point the series is spread between light novels, manga, anime, and actual video games, Legend of the Twilight stands as a title that depends on the viewer possessing at least a passing knowledge of all these different iterations to have a full understanding of its story. While serviceable in its own right, this title is itself an adaptation of the manga bearing the same name, and it is unfortunately a poor one. Due to the manga being incomplete, the anime took several liberties with the original story, so many in fact that the two stories are almost entirely different. Rather than being the hero saving the girl in distress (both his sister and the character of Zefie) like he does in the manga, Shugo instead plays the hero who battles evil. On it's own though, the title is simply lackluster at best. The characters are dull and the plot is simply not engaging. It's certainly a watch that .Hack fans might appreciate, especially those that played the video games, but it has little interest on its own outside being a show that is on a similar level of quality to simpler, child-oriented animes.
