Summary: In the not too distant future crime has become so common that weapons have been legalized for the general populace for self defense and a government organization founded to see to the peace during an era where weapons are common and constantly changing. This force is not above turning to contract mercenaries like Bai Lan, the members of which are the show's focus.
Review: While the world of Burst Angel seems like a bit of a cautionary tale, it is little more than a backdrop to the show's action and a loose explanation for the backstories of the characters. Had the origin of the world been addressed alongside the show's theme of transhumanism, this show might have had something to offer. As it exists though, it has little to offer outside of dull jokes and action that is frequently fueled by the idiocy of the characters and the evil but vague intentions of outside forces. Ultimately, the show misses every mark aside from its action sequences and renders itself only passable in the long run.
